Focus on the Lead

The smile often seen on Richard's face is but a reflection of God's wondrous blessings on his life. The other reflection you may see is simply the "hair follically challenged" spot on the back of his head (BALD is not politically correct). Taking the lead part, Richard sings the melody, providing the foundation for Paul, Ken, and Dan to build their unique harmonies. Richard is the youngest man in the quartet, frequently called the "little blond headed boy;" a label he gladly accepts.

God has placed many people in Richard's life who have demonstrated the joys of living in Christ. Loving Christian parents and a caring church shared God's love, resulting in Richard's recieving God's salvation at age six. Learning and growing in God's word continued and by 16 he was serving the Lord as Youth Leader at his church.

As a teenager Richard fell prey to the beauty, charm, and angelic voice of a Miss Debby Fields. She was part of "The Fields Family Quartet;" singing Gospel music throughout the mid-eastern region. Richard learned how to play the bass quitar and joined the group as they travelled and sang God's message of love and encouragement. Rumor has it that he had to audition a song for approval to marry Debby. In his case, they made an exception and let him marry into their family anyway.

Service to the Lord's work has always been Richard's trademark of worship of Jesus Christ. Over the years Richard has served God as Deacon, sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassador leader (a boy's Christian missionary group), and Preschool worker. In recent years, he has felt led of God to strengthen his faith and help other men in their Christian walk through the Promise Keepers organization. Asked what his calling is today, Richard said getting his boys prepared to fufill God's potential for their lives. His other calling is to try to help Ken Tipton stay on pitch when they sing.
